Subsidiary of Foxconn Incurs $22,000 Penalty for Violating Construction Codes

The Bac Ninh People’s Committee has imposed a VND520 million ($22,000) penalty on Fushan Technology Vietnam, situated in the VSIP Bac Ninh Industrial Park, for unauthorized construction activities. The company proceeded with the construction of four facilities, including two mobile phone assembly lines, a dining area, and a parking space, without obtaining the required permits. According to the prevailing regulations, the company is mandated to secure a construction permit for any project that has either a feasibility study or an economic-technical report for construction investment.

Fushan Technology Vietnam, a Foxconn manufacturing plant specializing in electronic components, telecommunications equipment, and computers, has been given a 90-day deadline from the sanctioning decision’s issuance date to submit the necessary documentation to the relevant authorities for a construction license. Should the company fail to present the required construction permit upon the deadline, it will be compelled to dismantle the unauthorized structures.

This facility, which began operations in 2013, was initially established as a Nokia phone manufacturing site with an investment exceeding $300 million. In 2014, it was acquired by Microsoft, becoming the sole Microsoft factory dedicated to smartphone production. The plant has continued to enhance its technological capabilities to boost production and broaden its product range.
