Amkor’s $1.6 billion semiconductor plant in Bac Ninh to commence large-scale production in 2024

Amkor Technology, Inc.’s extensive semiconductor assembly and testing facility in Bac Ninh, located in the northern province, is gearing up for mass production in 2024.

Kim Sung Hun, the General Director of Amkor Technology Vietnam, shared this information during a meeting with Nguyen Anh Tuan, Secretary of the Bac Ninh Party Committee, on January 18. The meeting delved into the company’s production plan up to 2025 and outlined its ambitions for the next phase of factory construction.

Hun revealed that Amkor Vietnam initiated its initial production in December 2023. The company is currently conducting testing on these initial items and aims for large-scale production in 2024. Amkor Technology seeks ongoing support from provincial authorities to adhere to its production plans and is committed to further investments in the next phase.

Tuan expressed, “2023 was a challenging year for Bac Ninh. However, the inauguration and operation of the Amkor factory in Yen Phong 2C Industrial Park are positive developments for the province. We hope Amkor will continue to attract semiconductor investors from the United States and South Korea to invest in Bac Ninh, fostering a semiconductor ecosystem in the region.”

On October 11, 2023, Amkor Technology inaugurated its $1.6 billion semiconductor assembly and testing factory in Bac Ninh. This facility is poised to be Amkor’s most advanced, providing cutting-edge semiconductor packaging capabilities.

Upon completion, the facility will encompass 200,000 square meters of cleanroom space. Starting with advanced systems for package and memory production, the factory will offer comprehensive solutions—from design to electrical testing—to leading semiconductor and electronic manufacturing companies globally.
