Yadea marked a pivotal moment in its Southeast Asian expansion with the groundbreaking ceremony for its second factory in Bac Giang, a northern province of Vietnam, on January 21.
Covering an expansive 232,200 square meters in Tan Hung Industrial Park, Lang Giang district, the $100 million facility is designed to produce two million electric motorcycles annually. This quadruples the capacity of Yadea’s first factory, operational since 2019 in the same locality.
Set to commence operations in 2025, the factory aims to reshape the electric motorcycle landscape in the region. Approximately 30% of its output will be exported to other Southeast Asian countries, including the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Laos.
Equipped with cutting-edge production technology, including an automated production line, the facility is expected to generate employment opportunities for around 3,000 workers, demonstrating Yadea’s commitment to the Bac Giang economy.
Alongside the new factory, Yadea plans to establish a research and development (R&D) center with a staff of 100 to 300 experts from Vietnam, India, Japan, Thailand, and China. The focus will be on producing smart e-scooters tailored to meet the preferences of Vietnamese consumers and those in the broader region.
Rong Wen You, CEO of Yadea Vietnam, stated, “The R&D centre will specialize in researching the mobility behaviors of the Vietnamese and Southeast Asian population. It will produce products designed to suit the preferences of Vietnamese people in line with Yadea’s global standards for quality control procedures.”
According to an industry report by communications consultancy Vero, Vietnam’s EV industry initially progressed slowly but holds undeniable potential for substantial growth. Brands entering the EV sector can seize this opportunity to capture early adopters, build trust, and establish a strong foothold for long-term benefits.
Yadea entered the Vietnamese market in 2019 and has emerged as a formidable competitor, directly challenging local EV firms such as VINFAST and Pega.
