Forest product exports surge by 47% in the span of two months

Vietnam’s forestry exports reached a total of $2.68 billion in the initial two months of 2024, marking a notable 47.4% increase compared to the previous year, as reported by the Department of Forestry under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

During this period, the sector exhibited a trade surplus of approximately $2.46 billion.

This year, the agricultural sector is aiming for a forestry export target of $15.2 billion, with wood and wood products contributing $14.2 billion, showcasing a 6% rise year-on-year.

To achieve this goal, the industry will implement stringent controls and management over imported wood, ensuring its legal origin before processing, and advocating for the utilization of domestically sourced raw wood from forests.

Furthermore, it will actively engage in trade promotion endeavors, expand market presence in emerging regions, host international fairs, and foster partnerships between wood processing and exporting companies and forest growers within production chains.
