Before 2030, the Ministry of Transport aims to finalize the pre-feasibility study report for the North-South high-speed railway project and initiate the construction of two priority sections.
The leaders of the Ministry of Transport have indicated that the project’s pre-feasibility study report will be presented to the National Assembly (NA) for approval.
As per the National Master Plan for 2021-2030 and the Railway Network Plan envisioning up to 2050, the North-South high-speed railway is designed with a double track scale, a gauge of 1,435 mm, and a length of approximately 1,545 km.
In February, the Politburo issued a directive on the direction of Vietnam’s railway development, urging relevant agencies to explore international experiences for a modern and well-informed construction investment plan.
In adherence to the Politburo’s directive, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh established a steering committee to oversee the North-South high-speed railway project.
After gathering feedback from various ministries and organizations, the Ministry of Transport has developed a comprehensive plan for the project.
During a recent project meeting earlier this month, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the project’s significant role in contributing to the nation’s socio-economic development, industrialization, and modernization. Consequently, he stressed the need for interdisciplinary consensus, contributions, and participation.
The Deputy Prime Minister has directed the Ministry of Transport to base its approach on the requirements of socio-economic development and draw from international experiences to thoroughly research, select, and propose a suitable plan.
