During a meeting on January 9 between Preben Elnef, Vice President of the LEGO Group, and Vo Van Minh, Chairman of Binh Duong People’s Committee, crucial information was unveiled.
Elnef highlighted that the factory is poised to enter a significant phase in 2024, transitioning from planning to production. Collaborating with partners, LEGO is actively working on securing a 110kV grid connection and installing solar power systems, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions in its manufacturing process.
This commitment underscores the group’s dedication to both efficient production and positive environmental contributions.
The construction of the factory, initiated in November 2022 at Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park III in Binh Duong, is expected to yield high-quality, locally produced products in the latter half of 2024. Once operational, the project is anticipated to generate thousands of jobs for the local community, fostering economic growth in Binh Duong.
Minh emphasized the local authority’s keen attention to the LEGO factory and expressed appreciation for the project’s progress. He assured support in resolving any challenges faced by the LEGO Group, ensuring an optimal business environment and successful outcomes upon project completion.
With the addition of this factory, the Danish toymaker now boasts seven manufacturing sites globally, marking its second in Asia. Notably, it is LEGO’s inaugural carbon-neutral plant, utilizing electricity from rooftop solar panels and a nearby solar farm.
The decision to establish the factory in Vietnam strategically places LEGO closer to key markets, reducing the supply chain and minimizing environmental impact. This approach enables LEGO to promptly respond to consumer demands, meeting market growth while upholding its responsibilities as a socially responsible corporate entity.
