Erex Corporation, a Japanese company specializing in providing electricity derived from biomass, has recently revealed plans for an innovative 50MW biomass power plant in the central province of Binh Dinh.
This proposal, outlined in a recent announcement by the Binh Dinh Department of Planning and Investment on January 17, aligns with Vietnam’s broader strategy to address climate change and enhance renewable energy sources.
With an estimated production capacity of 296.4 million kWh per year, the proposed facility signifies a robust commitment to green energy.
“Utilizing state-of-the-art stoker boiler technology and pure condensing steam turbines, our project assures both efficiency and environmental stewardship,” stated a representative from Erex.
The project will necessitate an investment of approximately VND2.4 trillion, equivalent to around $101 million.
This investment underscores Erex’s position in the rapidly evolving renewable sector of the region. The selection of the project site, expected to cover between 15 and 20 hectares, is already in progress, focusing on areas that can provide optimal infrastructure connectivity and minimal ecological disruption.
“Our objective goes beyond energy production. We aim to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, projecting a decrease of approximately 250,695 tonnes annually,” added the Erex spokesperson.
This commitment aligns with the stringent environmental standards the plant aims to meet, including controlled emissions of dust, nitric oxide, and sulfur oxide.
Regarding the development timeline, Erex aims to commence construction by 2027, with subsequent phases of equipment procurement and installation to follow. The plant is expected to start commercial operations by 2030.
Erex is also collaborating with Vietnam’s Energy Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This partnership involves establishing specific criteria for the project and conducting essential site-selection research.
