HCMC Proposes Solutions to Reduce Immigration Waiting Time at Vietnam’s Largest Airport

The Department of Tourism in Ho Chi Minh City has put forward proposals aimed at reducing the duration of immigration procedures for business class passengers and foreign investors arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

As per the department’s observations, international organizations, tourism entities, and foreign investors frequently voice concerns regarding the challenges and prolonged wait times experienced, particularly within the immigration areas of the airport.

In an effort to enhance the efficiency of immigration counters at the airport, the department has advocated for the establishment of a designated line exclusively for business class passengers and foreign investors.

Additionally, it has suggested implementing a priority service option at the counters for passengers willing to pay an additional fee.

Despite the introduction of automated immigration gates last August, aimed at streamlining processes for tourists, the city’s tourism authority continues to receive complaints regarding lengthy queues for immigration procedures.

To enhance the airport’s reputation and passenger service quality, the department has recommended that the People’s Committee urge the Immigration Department, under the Ministry of Public Security, and the Southern Airports Authority to explore a trial mechanism for expediting immigration procedures for business class passengers.

Furthermore, the department has proposed the provision of services for night flights to accommodate the growing demand, and has called upon relevant entities to leverage technology applications in entry and exit processes, visa issuance at border gates, and boarding procedures to reduce waiting times for tourists.
