Hitachi Energy Inaugurates Cutting-Edge Transformers Factory in Vietnam

Power and Distribution Transformers Factory in Bac Ninh, Vietnam.

Bac Ninh, Vietnam, November 28, 2023 – Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader that is advancing a sustainable energy future for all, celebrates a significant milestone with the inauguration of its cutting-edge Transformers Factory in Bac Ninh, Vietnam.

With a rich history spanning over three decades, Hitachi Energy has played a pivotal role in supporting Vietnam’s infrastructure and industry, contributing to the country’s energy transformation by integrating more than 30 percent of its renewable energy to the grid.

This modern transformers’ factory specializes in liquid-filled power and distribution transformers and is set to nearly double the previous factory’s annual capacity all while adhering to the most stringent global standards. This expansion empowers utilities, industries, and infrastructure sectors across Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa to enhance transformer asset performance while minimizing environmental impact.

This investment aligns with the company’s global capacity expansion plan to meet accelerating energy transition demand*3. Bruno Melles, Managing Director, Business Unit Transformers, Hitachi Energy, concluded: “The Bac Ninh factory inauguration confirms our strong commitment to lead the clean energy transition, but it is also connected with what we have at the core of our purpose: People, sustainability and innovation”.

The Bac Ninh Transformers factory currently employs more than 500 people to support the social and economic progress of the local community. The company is also committed towards sustainability with the factory receiving the LEED Gold certification*2, with the use of 100 percent fossil-free electricity in its own operations and has designed following environmentally responsible measures such as high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) roof materials, rainwater harvesting, wastewater recycling, and indoor air quality monitoring with CO2 sensors.

As an example of the business commitment to developing innovative solutions for the energy industry, the factory will produce distribution transformers with TVP® (Transient Voltage Protection) Technology*4. This revolutionary solution significantly enhances the reliability of distribution transformers, offering complete protection against transient voltages in multiple applications like Data Centers, Solar and Wind renewable generation.”
