In 2023, the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City Route Maintains Its Position as the Fourth Busiest Domestic Air Route Worldwide

The air route connecting Vietnam’s Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has maintained its fourth position among the world’s top 10 busiest domestic flight routes for the current year, as reported by OAG, a global leader in digital flight information, intelligence, and analytics for airports, airlines, and travel technology companies.

This marks the route’s consecutive second year securing the fourth spot.

The total seats sold on this route from October 2022 to September 2023 exceeded 10.8 million.

A representative from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam noted that the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route claimed the title of the busiest domestic route in 2023, operating nearly 43,000 flights—equivalent to 17.5 percent of the country’s total domestic flights and 22 percent of the total domestic passenger volume.

In 2019, this route also held the sixth position globally.

According to OAG, the busiest domestic airline route in 2023 is Jeju-Seoul in South Korea, with 13.7 million seats, followed by Chitose Airport-Tokyo Haneda in Hokkaido and Fukuoka-Tokyo Haneda in Japan.

Among the top 10 busiest international air routes in 2023, three are associated with Singapore Changi Airport, and three others are linked with South Korea’s Seoul Incheon.

Nine of the routes in the top 10 busiest international routes are situated in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East regions, while the lone exception is the route from London Heathrow to New York, the only one surpassing its 2019 capacity levels.
