Amazon and Alibaba Seek More Vietnam-Made Home Décor

With the rising demand for home decorations and compact furniture on Amazon and Alibaba, Vietnamese businesses have a growing opportunity to sell their locally made products. From grass brooms to water hyacinth baskets, as well as compact chairs and shelves, Vietnam-made home decoration items are attracting customers on Amazon’s U.S. platform.
Linon Home Decor’s black painted bar stool, priced at $81, has been labeled as an “Amazon’s Choice” and sold over 50 units in the past month. BeeFurni, known for selling garden furniture and wooden planks, experienced a 300% increase in revenue on Amazon in the first 10 months of 2022 compared to the previous year. Their stools, launched in 2018 and priced at $35-50, have garnered positive customer reviews. Home decoration and furniture items have shown remarkable growth on Amazon from 2020 to 2022, reflecting the sustained interest in online shopping for such products even as people return to offices.
Wall decoration, kitchen decoration, and bathroom decoration were the most searched keywords in this category last year. Vietnamese sellers on Amazon have consistently performed well in the home and kitchen decor categories over the past three years. Gijae Seong, managing director of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam, believes that Vietnamese businesses have untapped advantages and great potential in this industry.
With approximately 1,500 craft villages, abundant raw materials, and strong supply chains, Vietnamese furniture and decoration manufacturers are well-positioned for success in the international market, according to Amazon. Alibaba, the Chinese online ecommerce platform, also highlights home and gardening products as one of the most popular Vietnamese product categories on their wholesale platform. Potential buyers for Vietnamese products in this category have increased by 64% year-on-year in the last three months. Dining sets, kitchenware, home textiles, and affordable storage solutions are particularly sought-after items on Alibaba.
Nguyen Phong Metal, a small and medium-sized enterprise specializing in wrought iron products, has found success on Alibaba, with their export revenue doubling domestic sales since their first order worth $45,000 three years ago. Both Amazon and Alibaba highly value Vietnam due to its skilled craftsmen, with approximately 7.4 million workers in the country. Vietnam’s traditional craft villages have a rich history and experience in creating unique products. However, to succeed in the global market, Vietnamese manufacturers must improve the material processing for goods made from rattan, bamboo, and sedge, as these materials are susceptible to factors like humidity and insects.
In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam’s export turnover on wood and wood products decreased by 26.2% year-on-year, amounting to $7.21 billion. The U.S., Japan, China, the EU, and South Korea remain the main export markets for Vietnamese timber and forest products, accounting for 89% of the country’s total export value during the January-July period.
