Cheap Mekong Delta mangoes flood HCMC

🚜 Mekong Delta mangoes are flooding Ho Chi Minh City with prices at half of last year thanks to a plentiful harvest.
🧮 Southern Vietnamese province of Dong Thap is set to produce 180,000 tons of mangos this year and 72% are set to be consumed in HCMC, said Nguyen Van Luan, deputy director of Dong Thap Department of Industry and Trade.
🛒#Fruit vendors in HCMC have seen a 60% surge in mango supply from Dong Thap Province. Due to the spike insangos now sell for VND35,000-60,000 ($1.49-2.56) each.
📉 The rise in supply has brought the price down to around VND25,000-30,000 wholesale. Major retail chains, such as GO! And Tops Market are also selling mangoes at a discount of 20-35%.
🏪 Nguyen Thi Bich Van, CEO of Central Retail in Vietnam, said that her supermarkets had around 200 tons of the fruit available, the highest ever.
🧺 A bountiful harvest is the reason for the surge in supply of Mekong Delta mangos, said a representative of the operator of Thu Duc Market, a popular wholesaler of fruit and vegetables.
