NA Chairman affirms high importance of EU-Vietnam relations

National Assembly Chairman Vương Đình Huệ has expressed Vietnam’s strong desire to enhance its relationship with the European Union (EU), which is a key partner in Vietnam’s foreign policy. During his meeting with the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with the Countries of Southeast Asia and ASEAN (DASE), Chairman Huệ praised the positive outcomes in the Vietnam-EU relationship across various areas, including politics, diplomacy, economy, trade, investment, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, national defense, security, development cooperation, and human rights dialogue.
He also affirmed Vietnam’s support for the strengthening of ASEAN-EU strategic partnership and its readiness to play an active role in this process. The DASE Chairman, Daniel Caspary, highlighted the importance of the EU-Vietnam ties in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and global conflicts. He expressed his expectations for continued growth in two-way trade and closer parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.
The delegation also discussed various issues of mutual interest, including the implementation of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement, the fisheries sector, eco-friendly energy programs, and the rule of law in the East Sea. Chairman Huệ invited a delegation of young EP members to the ninth Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, which is to be jointly organized by Vietnam and the Inter-Parliamentary Union this September.
