Thomson Medical of Singapore Acquires Far East Medical Vietnam for $381 Million

Thomson Medical has announced its acquisition of Far East Medical Vietnam, marking Vietnam’s largest-ever healthcare transaction and the largest healthcare acquisition in Southeast Asia since 2020. In a statement, Thomson Medical highlighted that this move allows them to enter Vietnam’s thriving private healthcare market, which is experiencing substantial growth potential due to favorable macroeconomic conditions and increased healthcare expenditure.

The acquisition involves purchasing Far East Medical from its founders and an affiliate of Quadria Capital Investment, an Asia-focused private equity firm specializing in healthcare. Thomson Medical plans to finance the acquisition through internal resources, as well as borrowings from financial institutions and debt capital markets.

Far East Medical operates a diverse range of healthcare facilities in Vietnam, including the renowned FV Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, along with a network of primary and specialist clinics. This strategic acquisition positions Thomson Medical to expand its presence in the Vietnamese healthcare sector and leverage the opportunities presented by the country’s evolving healthcare landscape.
