Vietnam Seeks to Strengthen Partnership with Canada in Renewable Energy Development

During a meeting in New York on Wednesday, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang expressed Vietnam’s desire to increase collaboration with Canada in various fields, particularly in finance, investment, technical assistance, and experience sharing, with a focus on renewable energy development.
Giang, who is Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, thanked Canada for its support as a partner in the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), which aims to facilitate a transition to clean energy. He also reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, as announced at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in the UK.
Canadian Ambassador for Climate Change Catherine Stewart praised Vietnam’s efforts to address climate change and promote energy transition in recent times. She also discussed Canada’s global carbon pricing initiative, which aims to provide a platform for countries to share and learn from each other’s experiences in establishing carbon markets and to enhance technical support for pricing 60% of the global carbon volume by 2030. Stewart hopes that Vietnam will consider participating in this initiative.
