Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) boasts approximately 400 parks and a green landscape featuring over 235,000 trees. The cumulative park area in the city’s central districts surpasses that of its suburban counterparts.
Despite city plans designating over 11,400 hectares for parks, providing around 7 square meters per person, the actual park area stands at only 500 hectares. With a population of approximately 10 million, this translates to roughly 0.55 square meters of park space per individual.
In the 2020-2025 timeframe, HCMC aims to augment public park land by 150 hectares. Achieving this target necessitates the implementation of at least 54 projects, requiring an investment exceeding VND9 trillion ($366.4 million). However, to date, only eight projects have either been completed or proposed for investment.
According to a report submitted by the HCMC Department of Transport to the municipal People’s Committee, the proposed new parks will predominantly utilize public land or vacant plots.
The most expansive among them is Saigon Safari in Cu Chi District, covering 485 hectares and situated approximately 50 km from the city center. This project is integral to the Cu Chi historical and cultural tourism site, with relocation compensation for the initiative already 97% complete.
