Vietnam sets sights on sending 125,000 workers abroad under contracts in 2024, with a focus on established markets such as: Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea.
Nguyen Nhu Tuan, deputy head of the Information and Communication Division at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, outlines the projections:
Approximately 63,000 workers are earmarked for Japan, 48,000 for Taiwan, and 8,500 for South Korea.
Tuan emphasizes Vietnam’s commitment to prioritizing secure employment in lucrative sectors, ensuring high-income opportunities for workers.
The ministry remains dedicated to enhancing the caliber of outbound workers, particularly from disadvantaged regions, and those entitled to policy benefits. Plans involve broadening access to markets with high-paying roles aligned with Vietnamese skill sets.
Tuan underscores that sending workers abroad isn’t solely about job creation and poverty reduction but also about nurturing future national human resources.
In 2023, Vietnam surpassed its target, sending over 159,000 workers abroad under contracts, marking a significant milestone in over a decade.
Key markets like Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea continue to draw substantial numbers of Vietnamese laborers, with Japan leading with over 80,000 workers, followed by Taiwan with more than 58,000, and South Korea with over 11,000.
