FPT Retail Launches Mobile Virtual Network in Vietnam

FPT Retail, a renowned electronics retailer, has launched its own mobile virtual network, becoming the fifth such network in the country.

Recognized for managing the FPT Shop chain and operating as a subsidiary of the tech giant FPT, FPT Retail lacks its network infrastructure. Instead, it leases network services from MobiFone and provides subscriptions to consumers at its pricing.

With an extensive ecosystem comprising over 800 FPT Shops spread across 63 Vietnamese cities and provinces, FPT Retail is well-positioned to leverage its significant retail presence. These shops annually sell approximately 1.5 million smartphones and various electronic gadgets.

The newly introduced network will incorporate advanced features such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence, targeting tech-savvy demographics, especially younger consumers. It also aims to serve the needs of businesses and households.

FPT Retail’s strategic approach involves integrating various FPT services into the network to enhance the overall user experience, as stated by CEO Hoang Trung Kien.

This network’s introduction adds to the existing lineup of mobile virtual network operators in Vietnam, including iTel, Wintel, Local, and VNSKY.

As of early 2023, these operators collectively served approximately 2.56 million subscribers, constituting 2.1% of the total Vietnamese market.

Despite this, the majority of the market remains dominated by five telecom firms with network infrastructure, namely VinaPhone, Viettel Group, MobiFone, Vietnammobile, and Gtel.
