Starting in October, Vietnam Airlines is set to initiate two fresh routes linking Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Germany’s Munich.
The national carrier announced on Tuesday its plan to deploy Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft for these routes.
The Hanoi-Munich route will offer two weekly flights, departing on Fridays and Sundays and returning on Mondays and Saturdays.
Meanwhile, the HCMC-Munich route will have one weekly flight, departing on Mondays and returning on Tuesdays. An additional flight will be introduced every Wednesday starting from December.
Vietnam Airlines stands as the sole Vietnamese airline providing direct routes to Europe.
Bamboo Airways, a private carrier, had previously operated flights to Germany and the U.K. However, it ceased these operations at the end of last year as part of its strategic business realignment.
As the third largest city in Germany and a pivotal economic, cultural, and transportation center, Munich boasts a blend of historic and contemporary architectural marvels, along with the renowned Oktoberfest beer festival held annually in October.
With these new routes, Vietnam Airlines will expand its network to include four routes from Vietnam to Germany, encompassing routes from Hanoi and HCMC to Frankfurt. Additionally, the airline offers flights from Vietnam’s major cities to Paris and London.
Chairman Dang Ngoc Hoa announced in January the airline’s intention to introduce more international routes this year, with potential destinations including Milan, Copenhagen, Seattle, and Vancouver.
