Vietnam Explores Electric Vehicle Partnership with Turkey

Turkey and Vietnam have agreed to enhance collaboration between their private sectors in the manufacturing of electric vehicles during a recent high-level meeting. Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology Fatih Kacir, in response to a proposal by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, expressed agreement to strengthen their partnership in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, leveraging the respective advantages of both nations.

Additionally, Turkey has expressed interest in collaborating with Vietnam in the areas of industrial parks and high technology, citing significant potential in these sectors. Minister Kacir, during discussions with Prime Minister Chinh in Ankara, highlighted automation and security as other potential areas for joint efforts.

Prime Minister Chinh suggested that Turkey, with its experience in managing over 100 high-tech industrial parks, could consider investing in Vietnam. He also proposed negotiations for a free trade agreement and requested Turkey’s support in recognizing Vietnam as a market economy, along with assistance in fiscal and monetary policymaking.

In a separate meeting with Minister of Finance Mehmet Simsek, Prime Minister Chinh urged the removal of trade measures against imports from Vietnam. Simsek emphasized the importance of increasing trade and fostering favorable visa policies between the two countries. The discussion also included plans for Turkish banks to open offices in Vietnam, and Simsek proposed initiating negotiations for a free trade agreement at an opportune time.
