Vietnam Welcomes Investment from Leading US Semiconductor Company

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung expressed Vietnam’s substantial potential in developing the semiconductor and AI industries, affirming the commitment to creating favorable conditions for NVIDIA Corporation, a leading US chip producer, on December 11.

During a roundtable discussion addressing trends and opportunities in the semiconductor industry and AI development in Vietnam, Minister Dung proposed that NVIDIA intensify its research and development (R&D) initiatives, undertake semiconductor and AI projects within Vietnam, establish R&D centers and laboratories at the National Innovation Centre (NIC), and high-tech parks.

Minister Dung recommended that NVIDIA extend collaborative efforts and investment projects in Vietnam, partnering with local companies to cultivate a supportive ecosystem for the nation’s semiconductor and AI industries. Furthermore, he suggested collaboration with the NIC on a semiconductor human resources development project until 2030 and cooperation with Vietnamese educational institutions for human resources training programs.

Jensen Huang, the President and CEO of the US chip giant, expressed admiration for Vietnam’s potential and opportunities in expanding its semiconductor and AI industries, particularly acknowledging the country’s skilled workforce in these fields.

Huang emphasized that Vietnam is well-prepared for the upcoming wave of AI development, urging both parties to establish strategic relations in these fields. He pledged that NVIDIA would enhance its existing partnership with Vietnam, considering the country as its second home.

According to Huang, it is crucial for the country to inspire the younger generation to engage in AI, enhance the skills of its workforce, and aim to develop 1 million AI experts.

NVIDIA stands ready to collaborate with Vietnam to enhance its human resources capacity and AI infrastructure, he emphasized.

NVIDIA is a multinational corporation specializing in innovative graphics processing units (GPUs), application programming interfaces (APIs) for data science and high-performance computing, and system-on-chip units (SoCs) for mobile computing and the automotive market.

With over 27,000 employees, the company recently reported a revenue of nearly 27 billion USD. In response to the global surge in AI interest, NVIDIA plans to triple its AI production by 2024.
