Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong returned to Hanoi around 7:00 am on Sunday, concluding his successful four-day visit to the United States. He attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Week 2023 in San Francisco, California, upon the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden. This visit marked President Thuong’s first official trip to the U.S. since assuming power in March this year.
Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bui Thanh Son, expressed to the press that President Thuong’s visit to the U.S. was highly successful. It effectively conveyed Vietnam’s stance on the prevailing challenges facing the region and the world. President Thuong and his esteemed Vietnamese delegation played a significant role in the overall success of the APEC Leaders’ Week 2023, hosted by the U.S.
During the visit, the Vietnamese head of state presented his ideas and proposals to address critical global economic issues, emphasizing the need for an inclusive, harmonious, and humane approach. Additionally, President Thuong proposed Vietnam as the host for the APEC summit in 2027. This proposal reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to multilateralism, the Asia-Pacific region, and the APEC forum.
Minister Son highlighted that all APEC members commended Vietnam’s practical contributions over the past two decades and expressed their confidence in Vietnam’s chairmanship in 2027.
