Prioritizing Smart City Development: Japanese Ambassador's Focus

Nguyen Thi Tuyen, the permanent Deputy Secretary of Hanoi Party Committee, reassured the ambassador that Hanoi is actively overseeing the progress of the project and expediting necessary procedures. An exciting aspect of the Smart City project is the upcoming construction commencement of the Financial Centre Tower on November 10. This tower, a prominent feature of the North Hanoi Smart City, is set to become Vietnam’s tallest building with 108 stories, overlooking the communes of Hai Boi, Vinh Ngoc, and Kim No in Dong Anh district.

The Smart City project, covering an expansive area of 272 hectares and with a total investment of $4.2 billion, is a collaboration between Vietnam’s BRG Group, led by chairwoman Nguyen Thi Nga, and Japan’s renowned conglomerate, Sumitomo Corporation. The joint venture obtained its investment certificate during an investment conference in Hanoi in 2018, and groundbreaking took place in 2019.

By July 2023, the Hanoi People’s Committee had approved adjustments to the detailed 1/500 scale zoning plans for both the first and second phases of the smart city project in Dong Anh district, encompassing the Nhat Tan – Noi Bai route. The progress and future of this ambitious project not only signify the strengthening economic ties between Vietnam and Japan but also highlight Hanoi’s dedication to cutting-edge urban development and sustainability. The Smart City initiative is expected to significantly transform the northern landscape of Vietnam’s capital, solidifying its position as a modern and dynamic metropolis in Southeast Asia.
