Vietjet Air Expanding Routes: Flights to Cambodia, Indonesia, and China

Vietjet, the budget airline, has announced the launch of several new routes to Cambodia, Indonesia, and China, starting next month. The aim is to capitalize on the bustling year-end tourism season. From December 1, the airline will commence operations on a new route connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai, a prominent economic and commercial center in China, with seven weekly flights.

Additionally, the Hanoi-Jakarta route will commence on December 10, offering four weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Furthermore, a new route linking Hanoi and Siem Reap in Cambodia, home to the UNESCO world heritage site Angkor Wat, will begin on December 15, with seven flights per week.

These newly established direct routes to major tourist destinations in Asia come at a time when Vietnam has already welcomed nearly 10 million foreign visitors in the first ten months of the year and anticipates a total of 13 million by the end of 2023. While Vietnam’s key tourism markets, such as China, South Korea, and the U.S., are still recovering below pre-Covid levels, Southeast Asia has emerged as a significant market for inbound tourism to Vietnam.

Cambodia, in particular, has become Vietnam’s fastest-growing tourism market, with visitor numbers in the first nine months surpassing pre-pandemic levels by 267%. The visa-free policy allowing ASEAN member countries a 30-day stay has contributed to Vietnam’s increasing popularity among tourists from Southeast Asia. China has been the second-largest source of inbound tourists to Vietnam this year, with 1.3 million arrivals, following South Korea’s 2.9 million.
